King size bed dimensions

If you push two Extra-Long Twin beds together they will be about the same size as an Eastern King. Do you know the difference between king bed sizes? Sure, you know the names, but do you know the actual measurements of the beds? And if you found a beautiful wrought iron antique bed, a modern or an interesting trundle, would you know what size mattress to put on it? Below are the dimensions for King and California King sizes so that you can find exactly what will fit your bed.

  • King or Standard King (Eastern King beds) are about 16″ wider than a Queen bed and the same length.
    • Dimensions: 76″ wide x 80″ long
    • Width per person: 38″
    • Benefits: As the widest bed commonly available in stores, the Standard King is the most comfortable for two adults. Sheets labeled “King Size” will fit a Standard King bed.
    • Downside: These are the most expensive bedding and if you are very tall maybe a King is not long enough. They’re hard to get upstairs and fit in small rooms.
  • California King or Western King beds are 12″ wider than a Queen and 4″ longer. If you are very tall, this is the choice for you.
    • Overall dimensions: 72″ wide x 84″ long
    • Width per person: 36″
    • Benefits: Is wide enough for two to sleep comfortably and is the longest bed commonly available.
    • Downside: Except it’s size in case you have a small room, we didn’t find any downside.

Now that you know the dimensions you have to be careful to purchase the right size. Flat sheets will fit both sizes of King beds, but fitted sheets are cut to fit one or the other. Let’s see dimensions for flat sheets and fit comforter.
